Sonya Kitchell

Sonya is a two-time Grammy award winning songstress with a voice that is unadorned and true. Weaving folk and psychedelia, Sonya’s melodies blend a raw rock ‘n roll spirit together with a modern twist. She has toured the globe in support of her internationally acclaimed records, Words Came Back to MeThis StormConvict of Conviction , and the self-produced We Come Apart.

Sonya spent a year collaborating with the legendary Herbie Hancock on his Grammy Award winning album, River: The Joni Letters, winning two Grammys — the first for her work on Hancock’s album as a vocalist and later for her work on Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Revelator as a writer.

Other respected collaborators include Joni Mitchell, Wayne Shorter, Jackson Brown, and Ben Harper among others. In 2012 she became a permanent touring member of the Danish shoegaze band, Blue Foundation, penning several songs on their release Bloodmoon, and in 2020, Sonya joined forces with Neal Evans (Jack White, Soulive) to form psych-pop power duo +Co. Their latest release is titled Strange Symphony.

Kitchell has graced the stage at landmark venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl and her television appearances include Late Night with David Letterman and Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson among others.

She is the founder of The Antidote Workshop, a songwriting workshop, teaching individualized skills in the art of composition through one on one mentorship and small group learning.

At Woodward, Sonya looks forward to utilizing the time and space to dive deeper into her writing and dream up her next project.
